Read-a-thon: Day 5, 6 and 7

Day 5 (Friday 26. October)
Today I went to my dads place :) For a weekend of. :)Haven`t been there since I moved into the new appartment. Before that I was there more or less, at least once a week.
So it was nice being back there :D  So I didn`t get that much reading done. Coz I ended up talking to my dad instead :) + We were at my uncles place eating Taco with him and his buddy`s. :)

Read: 55 pages in Forged by Greed
+ 149 pages in The Jungle Book

Finished: Grimm Fairy Tales Presents: The Jungle Book

Conclusion: Could have been better.. But had a great day with my dad :)
And then just before falling asleep I finished a comic :P YaY

Day 6 (Saturday 27. October)
What a day.. Sat infrot of computer most of the day :( Buhuu..
But mostly to do math stuff.. Which sucks.. Since I was so wanted to read, but I had to do it..

Read: 35 pages of math study (which doesn`t really count :P)
+ 100 pages in Grimm Fairy Tales vol. 1

Conclusion: Math sucks when your doing a read-a-thon xD

Day 7 (Sunday 28. October)
To day was a do nothing day xD So freaking cold outside.. It was insane.. So the little I got read was because.. After taking the dog out.. We hurried inside again and into bed again.. Which is the only warm place a sunday :P So we stayed in bed and read.. And then later my dad drow us home..
Then there were some of all the boring home stuff.. Laundry, dishes etc..

Read: 67 pages of Grimm Fairy Tales vol. 1
+ 50 pages in Forged by Greed so far

Finished: Grimm Fairy Tales vol. 1

Conclusion: I haven`t quite yet.. I am still reading.. Till my eyes shut down..
But first I needed some break with Glee..
And then I will continue with Forged by Greed, when I am heading to bed :)

How are you reading going??

Review: Mrs. B`s guide to Household Witchery

This is not a normal book for me to review on this blog. But when I got a mail about this book tour, I just knew I had to join. Coz I love reading alternative books :) And I have like a whole bookshelf only with this type of books :)

The Book:
This is a book about witchcraft in your home.. Like spells and tips..
ISBN13: 9781578635153
224 pages
Published by Weiser Books, October 2012

Summary: (from Goodreads)

Whether you're sweeping the floor, making a meal, or cleaning out that junk drawer, domestic witch Kris Bradley, creator of the popular blog, "Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom," will show you how to create spells and magic to bring happiness and balance into your home. My Opinion:
This was a good book. But it doesn`t really stand out from a lot of the other books I read on this topic. It has some good advises for different spells etc.
And is easy to read, well putten together.
Tough I would recommend to have this book on paperform. I had it on ebook, and it kind of ruined it.
I think this book would be better as paperform, coz then you can flip through to the stuff you are looking for. :)
Coz it has a good list of different herbs and their meanings.
There are also household groceries and how to use them in the house or in magic rituals.
So all in all this is a good book to look up things in :)
I ended up rating it 4 out of 6 stars.

Since it`s a good book. But I felt there was missing something + it was for me like most the other books I read on this topic :)

Also check out:

If your interested in this topic be sure to come back on 23 November, where I will reviewing The Earth Childs Handbook.

Are you interested in magic and other alternativ stuff?? :)

Review: Coexist by Julia Crane

The Book:
Coexist is the first book in The Keegan Chronicles, written by Julia Crane. Back in 2011 :)
The second book is called Conflicted and the third book Consumed. All books has already been released. :) Though only on ebook I think.
Also in relation to this series there is a book called In the mind of Thaddeus, which is from the brothers point of view.

ISBN13: 9780983752004
236 pages

Read: September 2012
Language: English
Source: Ebook for free on Amazon

Summary: (From Goodreads)
Sixteen-year-old Keegan is struggling to keep her huge secret from her friends--she's an elf, descended from a long line of elves that live in secrecy alongside humans. In elfin society, mates are predetermined but not allowed to meet until they are eighteen. Against tradition, Keegan's brother Thaddeus told her Rourk's name because his visions warned him she'd need Rourk's protection, especially since Keegan will play a key role in the coming war between the dark and light elves.

Rourk finds himself drawn to Keegan's side every time she thinks his name. He wants to talk to her but remains in the shadows, silently guarding her every time she mentally beckons him. A twist of fate thrusts the two of them together when Rourk is forced to step up his protection and make his presence known. An ancient prophecy deeply entwines Keegan's family and the future of their society. Somehow they must find a way to thwart fate and win the battle...without losing Keegan. With war brewing, and dark forces aligning, will Keegan and Rourk ever have the life together that they both desire?

My Opinion:
I love me a good lovestory :D Which this was. Including some action, because of the big fight :)
You can feel with the main character coz she is a normal girl, just with special powers. And therefor it`s a good book. The reason it didn`t get full pot with me. Was because 2 times I was like.. Everything was way to much fairytale like descriped, so I was like.. yeah right.. But other wise it was really well written and I can`t wait to continue reading this series :D
Coz the ending was such a cliffhanger. Me need more :D

I gave the book 5 out of 6 stars

Coz it`s a short book, but they managed so well to get in such a good story, background etc. They remembered having a beginning, middle and end :) Which can be dificult in short stories.

Conclusion: Bad start for a read-a-thon, but a great relaxing day :)

Review: Legends in Exile

The Book:
Legends in Exile is the first comic in the series called Fables, written by Bill Willingham and illustrated by James Jean and Maleev.
The Fables series are on about 18 books, asfar as I could see. And then there are some standalones and some other parallel series :) You can see all the different choices on Goodreads.
I got myself some more comics by looking there :P

ISBN13: 97814012375547
144 pages
First published in 2002, republished May 2012

Read: October 2012
Language: English
Source: Comic, bought myself :)

The Summary: (From Goodreads)
When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile. Disguised among the "mundys," their name for normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters created their own secret society that they call Fabletown. From their exclusive luxury apartment buildings on Manhattan's Upper West Side, these creatures of legend must fight for their survival in the new world.

My Opinion:
I just finished this one and loved it.
It`s so different from what I expected. Much better.
I give it 5 out of 6 stars.

Love that there are all these fairytale characters that we all know from fairtales, told to us as kids.
But now they have like their own "world" in our world.. Kind of a way.
This one is about solving an investigation of a murder.
Which I found really interesting. It was like reading and having to guess and find clues..
Super cool.
I am so ordering book 2 right away ;)

But everything is not pretty and perfect butterflies.. Coz even though I have the days of I also need to do some other stuffs. Coz I just started studying math. So I need to do some math and some normal day stuffs.. So it will not be all read and fun..
Then my boyfriend would probably die of bordom :P Watching me reading all day and night :P haha
But I will enjoy a week with as much reading as possible.
Look forward to see how everyone elses week of reading will go.. :)

And again Congratulations to Bianca.. On your 22nd Birthday :D

Curious: Tiger Lily

Before Peter Pan belonged to Wendy, he belonged to the girl with the crow feather in her hair. . . .

Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn't believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.

Peter is unlike anyone she's ever known. Impetuous and brave, he both scares and enthralls her. As the leader of the Lost Boys, the most fearsome of Neverland's inhabitants, Peter is an unthinkable match for Tiger Lily. Soon, she is risking everything—her family, her future—to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she's always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter.

With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers seem doomed. But it's the arrival of Wendy Darling, an English girl who's everything Tiger Lily is not, that leads Tiger Lily to discover that the most dangerous enemies can live inside even the most loyal and loving heart.

Why:
I got curious on this book, after reading Joel`s review over at Vicariously.

It sound really good. And I love re-tellings of fairytales.
I haven`t seen this book many places, but think I heard some good stuff on some other blog aswell. But didn`t think more about it.
But now I am putting it on my Wishlist, coz I need to read this one :D

Have you read it? What did you think??
Or are you going to??

Review: Salem`s Daughter vol.1

Salem`s Daughter vol. 1
by Ralph Tedesco

The Book:
This is the first comic in a new series by the same name, Salem`s Daughter, written by Ralph Tedesco. And illustrated by Raven Gregory and David Leister.
It was published in May 2011.
Followed by the sequel Salem`s Daughter vol.2: The Hunting, 1 year later.
While 3 comic is being expected in the end of 2012, as far as I could understand.

ISBN13: 9780982582602
176 pages

Read: October 2012
Language: English
Source: bought for myself :)

Summary: (from Goodreads)
Two hundred years after the Salem witch trials of 1692, which resulted in the hangings of 19 women and men, Anna Williams is living an uneventful life in Essex County, Massachusetts. But there is more to Anna than meets the eye as she begins to discover her unique abilities. Anna must choose one of two paths in order to follow her true calling and Braden Cole, a hardened gunslinger looking for redemption, may be the one man who can help her along the way. From the minds behind the hit series Grimm Fairy Tales, comes a new series unlike anything you've seen

My Opinion:
I was super excited about reading this comic.. Coz I am loving the drawings. I really enjoyed it aswell.
Really exciting story, where you just want to know what powers Anna got. And how this all will end.
And the drawings are really good. And it`s well written. Don`t have much more to say..

Other then I ended up giving ut 5 out of 6 stars

I like that this comic has a good story to it, and is more then just good drawings :)

I already read vol. 2. And my review will soon be up ;)

Read-a-Thon The End

Dewey`s 24 hour read-a-thon has come to an end. And I joined in like 18 hours of it :P I think. :/ or 17... Something like that... Just say it liked that.. I had to sleep. Coz my animals don`t really get the whole thing stay up all night thingy.. So at one point I went to bed and slept for 6 hours or so..

You can check out hour by hour how it went for me. In my earlier blogposts :)

For a round up Kate, wanted us to answer some questions, here they are:
  1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
  2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
  3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
  4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
  5. How many books did you read?
  6. What were the names of the books you read?
  7. Which book did you enjoy most?
  8. Which did you enjoy least?
  9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
  10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
My answers:
1. around hour 12, when it was about 2 o`clock in middle of the night. And I had to realise, I had to go to bed. Coz my eyes were tired and I had a home to take care of the day after.

2.There are so many books. I wish I got to read. But to choose from the once I read this year.
I must say if anyone need anything light and interesting next year. They should check out Fables: Legends in Exile. Where they investigate a murder.

3. Everything worked really good :) Though there is so much happening online. That little me get distracted and forget about reading. Coz I ended up checking out everyone elses blog.
But that`s kind of also a good thing, finding new blogs. So don`t know if that`s such a negative thing again :P

4. The mini challenges was really fun :) I liked those.. And I liked reading tweets.. But I only followed the hashtag #readathon . Other wise it would be to much for me.

5. I finished 3 comics and read about 130 pages, divided into 2 other books :)

6. Salmes Daughter vol. 1
    Salems Daughter vol. 2
    Fables: Legends in Exile
    Hunger Games 3, Mockingjay
Mrs. B`s guide to household witchey

7. That must be the last one I finished. Fables: Legends in Exile.
That book was so much more then I expected and really interesting.
So I am actually heading over to order book 2, right now ;)

8. Mrs. B`s guide to household witchery.
It`s more like a look-up book. Where you look up the things you need. So reading it from one end to another, can get a bit boring.. Much the same things.. Different spells for the same reason..

9. No not really.. I think they did great :)
I might one join in as cheerleader myself once :P

10. If I have the whole weekend of in April. I would love joining in as a reader again.
Otherwise I might trymyself out as a cheerleader instead.
But hoping to read, since it`s a read-a-thon. So we cross our fingers, I have the days of from work :P

---

And off to my conclusion :) Here is a picture of the books I read

All in all I read almost 550 pages
which is pretty awesome :D
I finished the three cartoons, and started on two books :)

And we very much enjoyed loads of hours in our new livingroom :)

This is where we hangout for about 17 hours :P
Soon we will celebrate by going on a long walk in the forest. With a collegue of mine and his dog.
Afterwards I will have to do some more laundry and clean up all my snacks everywere. Untill boyfriend gets home from hunting. His been moose hunting all weekend :)

Hope you all enjoyed the read-a-thon :)
I suddenly did. Look forward to next time..

How much reading did you do??

~MoonStar~
and not to forget Selma and Missy.

Us. Taken around hour 7 :)

Read-a-Thon Hour 13-24

I was sleeping like a baby :P
My boyfriends place in the bed was not embty, coz both the cat and dog joined me :P

Hour 21
We woke up. First thing I did was find my book to start to read.
But because of the light puppy Selma, woke up aswell. And awake puppy=puppy gotta pee.
So we had to go for a little walk. Then I gave her some food and starting preparing something for myself. And now I am going to start reading my 3 comic Fables: Legends in Exile
Hour 22

And I also read about 50 pages in Fables: Legends in Exile.
+ I got to eat my breakfast. Drank chocolat milk and ate bread with chocolat thingy on :P
Me love chocolat <3 If you hadn`t noticed :P

Hour 23
Still reading in Fables: Legends in Exile :)
Hope to finish it :)

Mini challenge: over at Reading through life
Choose one of the books you have read. If it where turned into a movie. You should play in it.
My answer: I think Julia Roberts would be perfect to play Snowwhite, in Fabler: Legends in Exile.
I could totally see her strict with black hair. As Snowwhite has in this comic :)
And hir sister Rosered could be played by Amy Adams.

Julia Robert as SnowWhite
Amy Adams as her little sister RoseRed

Hour 24
I just kept reading Fables: Living in Exile. And actually finished it up, 5 min. before the read-a-thon ending :) So YaY 3 comics finished.
And I went from 5 books behind on Goodreads, to only 2 books behind. During this read-a-thon.

I know I am a slow reader. But I get distracted.. And every 15 min, I had to play with my puppy :P

How have you been.. Have you been able to read all hours??

Review: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

The Book:
Catching Fire, is the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy, written by Suzanne Collins.
The first book was called The Hunger Games and became a big hype. + the movie newly released on DVD. Which was by the way, super awesome :)
Third book is called Mockingjay and have already been released.
First book was first published in the Summer 2008. Now a lot of people know this series and a lot of other books are being compared to it.
The movie of this book, is also on it`s way :) YaY

ISBN13: 9780439023481
374 pages

Read: October 2012
Language: English
Source: bought for myself in Paperback

Summary: (From Goodreads)
Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

My Opinion:
OMG :O Crazy.. Just finished this book.. Had not forseen that ending coming :O
I was so frustrated while reading this books. Coz you get to attached to all the characters.
And then the whole triangle drama.. :O I almost couldn`t take it.. Coz I love Peeta and his innocence and love for Katniss.. And sometimes I swear out loud, coz she doesn`t deserve him xD haha
But yeah.. Everyone need to read this book.
Really don`t understand how it could take me so long, before I picked it up.. But I will definitely read the third book very soon :)

And if you haven`t already guessed. I give this book 6 out of 6 stars :)

Review: Sophie`s Secret by Tara West

Sophie`s Secret by Tara West

The Book:
Sophie`s Secrets is the first book in the Whispers series, written by Tara West.
First published in 2007. :)
There are three books in Whispers. Sequel called, Don`t tell Mom. Third book called, Krysta`s curse.
This book is expected to be republished December 2012.
As far as I know, it`s only available as ebook.

309 pages

Read: April 2012
Language: English
Source: Free ebook on Amazon

Summary: (from Goodreads/BN.com)
After shedding 30 pounds of baby fat, Sophie Sinora has grown into a pretty, but insecure, teen in bloom. To make her life more complicated, Sophie can sometimes read minds.

Sophie's BFFs, AJ and Krysta, are also 'gifted' with paranormal abilities. Keeping their gifts secret proves difficult, as their powers are strengthening, making them feel more and more like freaks.

When Sophie falls for Jacob, she hopes he'll ask her out to the Freshman Formal. But when she's forced to cheat and lie for him, she wonders how far she'll have to go to make him like her. Add to her growing list of problems - her teacher's suicidal thoughts, a locker bully who wants to kick her butt, the hot school flirt who won't stop teasing her, her pregnant sister who boots Sophie out of her room, and the growing tension between Sophie and her best friends.

Sophie's got issues. Hopefully, she can fix them in time to save her teacher's life and her social life.

My Opinion:
I just finished this one. And decided to give it 4,5 out of 6 stars.

The reason is. It`s a great book. Easy and well written :)
Really fast read for me :)
YA book suitable for the age of 11-16 years.
Since you follow a young girl in school with her crushes, friend issues and family drama.
And next to that she got her gift who butts ind and ruin it a bit.
She can hear peoples thoughts and her gift is getting better.
But is it a good thing :/
I really enjoyed this book and will definitly check out the sequel.
This is a short fast read. With no big drama, action thing.
But real life issues :) As we all know them. And a great conclusion to the story.
About young love :)

Teaser: Voices of Dragons

Voices of Dragons
 by Carrie Vaughn

“Can I help?”
“I don`t know. I guess just talking about it helps.”
“Then you should talk. That`s why I came – talking is always good.”
“Even if I am breaking who knows how many laws -”
“Me as well,” he said, huffing through his nostrils.
“Breaking dragon law.”
“What`ll they do to you if they find out?”

I just finished this book. This morning :) So review soon to come.. For the people who haven`t heard of it before.. I will write the first of the summary, on the back of the book. The part who made me go Wauw.. when I chose to buy this book :)

summary:
On one side of the border lies the modern world: the internet, homecoming dances, cell phones. On the other side dwell the ancient monsters who spark humanity`s deepest fears: Dragons.
Seventeen-year-old Kay Wyatt knows she`s breaking the law by rock climbing near the border, but she`d rather have an adventure than follow the rules.
When the dragon Artegal unexpectedly saves her life, the rules are abruptly shattered, and a secret friendship grows between them.

Jepp, that is a pretty awesome summary :) So have you read this book?? or planning to?
Read any other books with dragons? this was my first and definitly not my last..
